MODLOGIQ Wins Highest Honor—Judges Choice Award—at World of Modular 2022!

New Holland, PA – April 28, 2022 – MODLOGIQ, a leader in off-site construction of commercial modular buildings, is proud to announce it won the prestigious Judges Choice Award for The Center for Well-Being project at UMBC. The Center for Well-Being project also won 1st Place for “Permanent Modular Construction – Healthcare.” In addition, the video highlighting the UMBC project won “Best in Show” and 1st Place “Marketing - Multimedia.” Finally, the Chelmsford Fire Station project MODLOGIQ fabricated for partner Triumph Modular won 1st Place for “Permanent Modular Construction – Dormitory.”

“Winning the ‘Judges Choice Award’ this year for The Center for Well-Being project,” says Jim Gabriel, President, CEO at MODLOGIQ, “when the World of Modular had the most entries ever, 144 entries, demonstrates our team’s ability—from Design Assist to Pre-Construction to Fabrication to Transport to Installation to Site Completion—to closely collaborate with world-class partners like the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Gilbert Architects, and construction manager Whiting-Turner. The same capabilities were also on display with the Chelmsford Fire Station project and our partnership with Triumph Modular. These wins are a great way to finish a productive week at the 2022 World of Modular Conference in San Antonio. MBI did a stellar job!”

The Center for Well-Being project at UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) dramatized the schedule advantages MODLOGIQ helps deliver. “We began off-site fabrication of this multi-story building months before demo of the existing structure at the site started,” notes Ed Zimmerman, Senior VP of Construction Operations at MODLOGIQ. “It’s one of the more dramatic examples of how off-site fabrication shifts the start and finish lines to accelerate schedule.”

Scott Heckel, Vice President at MODLOGIQ points to the intense coordination that went into speeding completion: “We collaborated closely with Gilbert Architects on the design, which allowed us to start fabrication early. We also orchestrated our in-plant work with Whiting-Turner’s site work, so by the time they had completed the foundation and site prep, we were ready to transport more than 24,000 square feet of modules to the UMBC campus. Installation was finished in just days, minimizing disruption—the site is closely surrounded on four sides by dorms, sidewalks, and streets. Then site completion was wrapped up in just weeks for an on-time, fall semester opening.”

The video highlighting The Center for Well-Being | UMBC project also won “Best in Show” for Marketing and 1st Place “Marketing – Multimedia.” It dramatized the schedule acceleration advantages by featuring MODLOGIQ’s own social media star, Stephanie Voulamandis, side-by-side time lapse footage of plant fabrication and site prep/work, and a bit of humor.

The Chelmsford Fire Station project presented an interesting challenge. The dormitory and its factory-installed exterior brick installed at MODLOGIQ’s plant had to integrate seamlessly with the site built fire engine bays. “The new dormitory fit perfectly with the existing structure and provided a significant upgrade in comfort and amenities,” says Stacy Tanner, Director of Business Development at MODLOGIQ. “At the same time, we helped accelerate the schedule to minimize the amount of time that the emergency response team had to be housed in temporary living quarters. It was a win-win for everyone.”
