Town Center at SouthSide Works

RETAIL / FOOD SERVICE

Two new SouthSide Works restaurant kiosks—one for Slice on Broadway and one for Smokin Ghosts BBQ—were installed in less than one day at Town Square at SouthSide Works in Pittsburgh, PA.

The permanent kiosks were fabricated at MODLOGIQ’s factory in Lancaster county and finished to a 95% completion level, including fully-operational kitchens, refrigeration, ovens, food prep, fire safety systems, and even a restroom for one of modules. The two kiosks were transported 250 miles via specialized “low-boy” trailers, lifted by crane, and set in place in just hours. The extraordinary level of completion achieved at MODLOGIQ’s factory enabled both restaurants to open for business in just weeks—months earlier than would have been possible with conventional, site-built construction.

MODLOGIQ’s SMART Off-Site Construction also saved months of construction detours, safety hazards, noise, and dust at the dense, urban location. Other features of Town Center include restaurant seating under a pergola plus a semi-permanent food truck and micro-brew truck.

“This is Pittsburgh’s version of the American dream,” says Jim Gabriel, President/CEO of MODLOGIQ. “I’m the grandson of a South Side steel mill worker. Now my company is playing a key role in the renewal and rejuvenation of Pittsburgh’s South Side. It’s pretty cool to see a crane in the old neighborhood swinging these 10-ton, fully-built kitchens into place in just a few hours.”
